Promote Your Region with Great Southern Trails

A new way to attract mountain bike visitors to your town

If your business is located anywhere from the coast to the high country in Southern NSW, it’s time to get on board with the biggest MTB tourism initiative in the region – Great Southern Trails.

Great Southern Trails is a self-drive mountain biking route covering 10 purpose-built trail networks across the South Coast, Alpine, and Capital regions. With over 550km of dedicated trails, it connects iconic destinations like Mogo, Tathra, Thredbo, Stromlo and beyond – creating one of the most diverse riding adventures in Australia.

And it’s not just for hardcore riders. From gravity seekers chasing downhill thrills to families looking for fun, safe trails, Great Southern Trails makes it easy for all types of mountain bikers to plan a road trip through your town.

Why It Matters for Your Business

1. More bike visitors = more business.
Riders travel with gear, groups, and an appetite for good food, coffee, beer, and accommodation. Many ride in the morning and explore towns in the afternoon. If you’re bike-friendly, you’re more likely to be part of their itinerary.

2. They’re already looking for you.
The Great Southern Trails website helps riders plan multi-day adventures. If you’re a café, pub, motel, service station, or tourism operator on the route, you can become part of their trip.

3. It’s not just one trail network – it’s 10.
With over 1,000km of road trip distance and riding options in every direction, visitors can stop for a few days – or make it a two-week epic. That means more overnight stays, repeat visits, and broader spending across the region.

Who’s Riding?

  • Gravity Seekers: Riders chasing jumps, drops, and downhill action at destinations like Thredbo and Stromlo.
  • Trail Lovers: Enthusiasts looking for smooth singletrack, views, and variety across places like Tumbarumba and Narooma.
  • Families: Parents and kids exploring beginner-friendly trails together in Cooma, Jindabyne or Mogo.

How You Can Get Involved

  • Make your business bike-friendly. Add secure bike parking, water refill points, or trail maps to attract riders.
  • List on tourism sites. Ensure your business is visible on Great Southern Trails, Visit NSW, and local tourism directories.
  • Collaborate with trail builders or clubs. Partnering with local MTB groups helps you stay informed and involved.
  • Promote the road trip. Share the Great Southern Trails website and use the tagline:
    Send it South.

Ride the Momentum

Mountain biking in Southern NSW is booming – and Great Southern Trails is the road map that connects it all. Whether you’re in hospitality, retail, accommodation, or tourism, now’s the time to welcome riders, support the trails, and grow your local economy.
